Study To Become A Commercial Pilot A New Course For Want To Be Qantas Pilots

Looking To Become A Commercial Pilot

Considering a career as a pilot - perhaps a Qantas pilot, then one way to possibly achieve your goal is to enrol at the Qantas Group Pilot Academy. The newly opened Academy is expected to train up to 500 pilots a year. Two sites have been announced for the Academy - the first at Toowoomba in Queensland and the second at Mackay in Queensland. The Toowoomba location is accepting applications with the first intake of around 100 students to commence study in September this year. Toowoomba is home to the privately built and owned Wellcamp Airport and has purpose-built training facilities and student accommodation for the Academy.

New Qantas Pilot Training Course

Qantas has appointed Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) as the training provider with support from the Qantas Group. The full course runs for 52 weeks. Students at the Academy undertake studies to obtain their Commercial Pilots Licence, Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating, Airline Transport Pilots theory, and Multi-Crew Cooperation. Single engine training will be completed in a Diamond DA40 aircraft and multi-engine training will be in a DA42 aircraft. Students will have the option to join the Qantas Group Future Pilot Program where they are mentored by experienced Qantas Group pilots. On completion they may be invited to undertake an airline transition course and then progress to become a Turboprop First Officer with Qantas Group regional airline QantasLink.

Female Students Encouraged To Enrol

The Qantas Group Pilot Academy will also be an opportunity to address the global gender imbalance among pilots with only about 3 per cent of current pilots being female. Given the increasing demand for pilots - it is estimated 640,000 new pilots over the next 20 years, it is hoped women will apply to enrol at the Academy to help meet the future pilot demand. The Nancy-Bird Walton initiative announced by Qantas in 2017 is aimed at increasing the 5 per cent proportion of female Qantas pilots by having an intake of 40 per cent of qualified female pilots in ten years time.

So if your ambitions are to be a Qantas Group pilot now is a great time to enrol! And if a family member is too young to be a pilot at least they can have the pilot hat click here
